Fabiano Ventura, photographer and mountaineer, has documented the effects of climate change in Alaska, Caucasus and Karakorum over the last hundred years. Starting with the historical shots of early explorer photographers such as Vittorio Sella, Massimo Terzano, Ardito Desio, Mor Von Dechy and Wlliam Osgood Field, Ventura took glacier after glacier of the exact same shots. The result is a comparison between historical and contemporary that leaves one astounded, both for the beauty of the images and for what they reveal: a profound change in the planet. The Festival is conceived by the Associazione Stilelibero with the collaboration of the Associazione Macromicro and with the support of the Embassy of the United States of America, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Biella, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, the Region of Piedmont, the Municipality of Biella, and thanks to the contribution of UP Mobile, Birra Menabrea and Enel Green Power.

The exhibition will be enriched by the interactive video installation by artist Paolo Scoppola, entitled In cammino nel tempo. The public, through simple gestures, will be able to interact with the images: zoom in on details or superimpose modern images on historical ones to observe the mutations of the glaciers that have occurred over time. This is an artistic didactic work created for the project On the Trails of the Glaciers.

During the exhibition period, in-depth meetings with the author are also planned, during which documentaries of the expeditions will be screened.

Following the screenings there will be a conference with directors Massimiliano Sbrolla, Marco Preti, Tommaso Valente, researchers Claudio Smiraglia, Riccardo Scotti, project creator Fabiano Ventura, producer Roberto Dall'Angelo and journalists Luigi Bignami and Matteo Marini as moderators. This fourth edition of Memorandum - Festival of Historical Photography is a real photographic tour: it started in Biella in March, then moved to Turin, and now arrives in Rome. The exhibition presented itself in different guises according to the host city, displaying a total of 14 exhibitions and realising a series of related events. It unveiled and made accessible, in some cases for the first time, images with a strong emotional impact or with explicit documentary connotations, emphasising salient episodes of collective memory with the aim of involving the general public and not only insiders.

There are many themes, places, personalities and historical periods covered, giving the Festival a multiform and heterogeneous identity, which constitutes its true wealth. Memorandum is in fact weighed not as an event of authorial celebration but as an ambassador of the multitude of realities that distinguish the photographic and archival panorama.
