On the occasion of International Mountain Day 2025, the Macromicro Association is honored to present a selection from the photographic exhibition of the On the Trail of the Glaciers project at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome.
Open to visitors from 8 to 19 December in the organization’s main atrium, the exhibition features the interactive video installation Walking Through Time alongside a series of large-format repeat-photography panels. Together, FAO and the Mountain Partnership invite visitors on an extraordinary visual journey through the retreat of glaciers across the world’s major mountain ranges.
This year’s theme, “Glaciers matter for water, food and livelihoods in mountains and beyond,” highlights the vital role glaciers play as freshwater reservoirs essential to food security and human well-being, far beyond mountain communities alone. The works on display, the result of years of expeditions and archival research conducted by the Macromicro Association, offer a direct comparison between past and present, providing compelling evidence of the climate crisis unfolding before our eyes.
We invite you to visit the exhibition and discover, through the power of images, why protecting glaciers is one of the most urgent challenges facing humanity today.
