International Mountain Day 2025 was celebrated today at FAO headquarters with a high-level event attended by international delegates, institutional representatives, and experts from around the world. The afternoon session in the Atrium was opened by Barbara Nappini, President of Slow Food Italy, and Fabiano Ventura, President of Macromicro APS – ETS.
During the event, outstanding mountain initiatives were recognized through the Mountain Future Award, while young representatives of the Mountain Youth Hub from Bhutan, Nepal, and Russia shared their firsthand experiences and perspectives on the future of mountain communities.
Fabiano Ventura guided participants through the On the Trail of the Glaciers exhibition, illustrating how the combination of photography and science can raise public awareness about the vulnerability of mountain ecosystems and the far-reaching impacts of climate change.
The celebration concluded with a tasting of mountain products organized by Slow Food, highlighting the inseparable connection between the health of glaciers, local livelihoods, and the quality of traditional food production.
