by Giorgio Pacifici and Andrea MartinoIt is not the first time in the history of our planet that the poles are melting, the waters of the oceans are rising and extreme climatic events are occurring. Today, however, scientists are able to study what is happening and make predictions. How much pollution affects climate warming, and how much uncontrolled urbanisation. And what consequences there will be for our earth if states are unable to take action. This is confirmed to us by the results of a ten-year project, entitled ‘On the Trails of the Glaciers’, which is monitoring the Earth’s most important glaciers using the method of comparative photography between historical and modern images, satellites photographing from miles away the shrinking polar ice and snow that seemed eternal on the world’s highest mountains. We are told this by scholars who measure with cores the ice layers that have formed over millennia and are now at risk. Rising temperatures with their climatic repercussions are affecting water reserves and agriculture. Producers are running to reparations and adapting. Tropical fruits are also being cultivated in Italy. Fish farms suffer from the heat and have to adapt.
