From February 24 to April 1, 2010 the photographic exhibition “On the Trails of the Glaciers; 1909 – 2009: a century of climate change on Karakorum glaciers” was on display in Rome, in a prestigious institutional venue such as Sala Santa Rita located a few meters from Piazza Venezia. The exhibition – promoted by the Department of Cultural Policies and Communication of the Municipality of Rome and organized by the Macromicro Association in collaboration with Enel Green Power and Zètema Progetto Cultura and with the technical participation of Epson Italia, Sony Italia and 10b Photography – displays the results of the first expedition of the photographic-scientific project “On the Trails of the Glaciers,” which took place in 2009 in the mountains of K2, Karakorum, Pakistan.
The exhibition featured large, high quality prints and compared historical images, taken at the beginning of the century by photographers Massimo Terzano and Vittorio Sella, with modern ones, taken by Fabiano Ventura during the 2009 Karakorum expedition, to highlight the changes that have occurred over the past 100 years to these glaciers, which are sensitive indicators of the climate changes taking place on our planet. Two large Sony LCD screens in the hall also showed the trailer of the documentary, made by SD Cinematografica during the expedition, and a slideshow of historical and modern images in comparison.The event was met with great critical acclaim in all media; public attendance was above all expectations, with more than 6,000 visitors in just over a month. A catalog was also published, containing all the images exhibited.At the moment, subsequent exhibitions of the exhibition already requested by other Italian and foreign cities are being planned, and the one related to the mission to the Caucasus, whose exhibition in 2012 is planned, is being elaborated.
